ActiveLearn for Functional Skills English and Mathematics

(Entry Level 3, Level 1 and Level 2)

Our ActiveLearn teaching and learning resources for Functional Skills offer a supportive and tailored experience for use in a classroom or workplace setting.

The topic-based content covers key areas within the new specifications and includes materials for Entry Level 3, Level 1 and Level 2. We’ve identified the main problem areas that can hold learners back as well as new or challenging content in the reformed qualifications, so our resources will enable practitioners to work closely with learners to help them progress through difficult areas of the syllabus with confidence.

Supporting learner progression

  • Co-created with some of Pearson’s own customers*, our resources embed maths and English skills within real-world, age-appropriate contexts designed to appeal to a wide range of learners.

  • Feedback and guidance throughout the teaching and learning content allows specialist and non-specialist tutors alike to pinpoint areas of difficulty and intervene at the right time with suitable materials.

  • The unique structured approach focuses on addressing the common barriers to learning so that more of your learners
    can succeed.

  • The underpinning assessment for learning principles encourage learners to take control, see the progress they are making and develop the confidence and motivation to keep moving forward.

A flexible service

  • Our adaptable resources will work with single- or mixed-level cohorts and include built-in differentiation so that learners can progress at their own pace.

  • Common misconceptions and new areas of the reformed qualifications are targeted, allowing you and your learners to focus on the things they don’t understand.

  • Option to access resources through the interactive Scheme of Work or download direct, making it easy for you to find the right teaching and learning materials you need, when you need them.

Targeted support for every learner

  • Opportunities to reflect on and review learning are embedded throughout the materials.

  • Formative assessments enable you to check and assess learners’ understanding and identify next steps.

  • Visibility of individuals’ strengths and weaknesses helps pinpoint specific needs, enabling faster progression through the syllabus.

*Our Functional Skills resources have been created in partnership with our Teacher Partner Programme, to ensure that they really deliver what's needed. Find out more about the Teacher Partnership Programme
