The study was being conducted by leading academics from UCL Institute of Education (IOE) in partnership with the Pearson UK Research team. The Bug Club Randomised Control Trial is a large scale research study looking into the impact of Bug Club on literacy attainment for 1,510 pupils. The study was carried out from January 2015 to July 2016.

The results show that schools using Bug Club make additional progress in children’s reading, vocabulary and spelling.

Miss H, Literacy Lead, Greater London

"Pearson’s texts have very strong, interesting plots that kept the children that I was working BugClub_Rebrand_Logo_Mainwith hooked throughout."

"Once logged into the online world of Bug Club teachers can assign certain texts to children and get up an assessment of how much has been read. This is really useful to gage the children’s engagement with what they are doing online and would help with AFL and planning in the classroom. "

Tanya Byron, child psychologist

“I think Bug Club is a genius concept and I think it's genius in a number of ways. First of all, I think the simplicity of the concept is really attractive; you don't have to be technologically really savvy as a parent or the teacher, to be able to engage in Bug Club.

"What Bug Club does is give children the opportunity to have a really bespoke reading experience and that’s what I like about it.”

John Dabell, Teach Primary Magazine

"Bug Club deserves gushing praise for its design and innovation. This is a programme destined to lead the market and transform the way we teach reading from Reception to Year 2. It will help children get the best possible start in their reading journey and enjoy page after page of reading success.

"This resource will make you glad you became a teacher and if you aren't teaching Reception, Year 1 or Year 2, you'll wish you were."
