You spoke, we listened.

Last year, over 100 schools told us what you really want from a KS3 science course – and here it is.

We've added some brand-new features to our popular KS3 Exploring Science course for 2020, including new planning, teaching and assessment resources.

Take a look at the new course guide to see how Exploring Science can fit seamlessly into your 11–16 curriculum, and preview the digital resources and tools we offer for this course on ActiveLearn. Or request a free 30-day trial to get to know the full course.

Get started with interactive schemes of work

We've created a free interactive Scheme of Work for science - a fantastic online planning tool for KS3 and GCSE (9–1) science courses.

You can start using it now, either by exploring our ActiveLearn sciences preview, or by creating a quick account to use the feature as much as you'd like. If you're already registered on ActiveLearn, just log in.

On ActiveLearn, the Scheme of Work tool is available under the Plan menu at the top of the page.

Like a traditional scheme of work, the iSoW provides you with a guide for teaching 11–16 content. It includes a suggested teaching order, an idea of suitable stages to teach each topic, and how long to spend on each subject.

  • The Interactive Scheme of Work helps you cover the full curriculum and qualification requirements over 5 years. You can choose a 2 or 3-year Key Stage 3, and the iSOW suggests how long to spend on each topic, which GCSE (9–1) activities you will have time to run, and which Exploring Science topics you could cover.

  • Teach the topics in the order that works for your department. When editing the order of your Scheme of Work, the iSow will automatically highlight any prerequisite topics first, saving you time on planning and teaching your lessons.

  • The iSOW works seamlessly with your existing digital teaching resources. Any existing ActiveLearn digital resources that your school is using will be integrated into the Interactive Scheme of Work.
